"Gina Torres" Study - Illustration by Sam Spratt
In the midst of an album cover but had a bit of time to flesh out my sketch from the other day.
Hey guys.. it has been a long time since I posted anything. Everyone still there? :)
Here’s a work in progress.. it’s been such a long time since I did any serious painting, and this one is taking so long. I think i will definitely be more motivated to finish it if I shared the WIP here.
At this stage, not quite sure what to do with the background, so just put a basic painted texture on.. not even sure about green… bah.. i’ll figure something out. :)
Why are some so confused? The new female #Thor is a comic book title, not a movie. First time a woman has been worthy of Mjolnir! Very cool.
Marvel is excited to announce an all-new era for the God of Thunder in brand new series, THOR, written by Jason Aaron (Thor: God of Thunder, Original Sin) complimented with art from Russell Dauterman (Cyclops).
This October, Marvel Comics evolves once again in one of the most shocking and exciting changes ever to shake one of Marvel’s “big three” – Captain American, Iron Man and Thor – Marvel Comics will be introducing an all-new THOR, GOD OF THUNDER. No longer isthe classic male hero able to hold the mighty hammer, Mjölnir, a brand new female hero will emerge will who will be worthy of the name THOR. Who is she? Where did she come from and what is her connection to Asgard and the Marvel Universe?
“The inscription on Thor’s hammer reads ‘Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.’ Well it’s time to update that inscription,” says Marvel editor Wil Moss. “The new Thor continues Marvel’s proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn’t a temporary female substitute - she’s now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!”
Series writer Jason Aaron emphasizes, “This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it’s unlike any Thor we’ve ever seen before.”
THOR is the latest in the ever-growing and long list of female-centric titles that continues to invite new readers into the Marvel Universe. This female THOR is the 8th title to feature a lead female protagonist and aims to speak directly to an audience that long was not the target for Super Hero comic books in America: women and girls.
The View never said it was a comic title they were talking about, and not a bloody movie!!! ugh!
ok, then all is good.
This sounds really cool. I would definitely read this comic! :)
Gina in progress.
So very important.
I love this man :)
Aw anon! I didn’t mean to be such a disappointment of an artist to you. Here you go
*goes on Deviantart to get male sitting reference poses to draw during lunch break at work*
*screen is suddenly filled with penises*
The one time I don’t want a nude and it’s ALWAYS at work.
LOL the same thing happened to me, and my husband walked in and gave me a funny look. :) I said, “It’s for art!!!” and he was like “yeah right…”
Man.. I’ve been having the longest art block, and finally decided to do something about it. Quick-ish (1 hr?) portrait study from the reference (above) found on the internet. The likeness is way off, but didn’t measure too much because I mainly just wanted to experiment different brushes/texture for fun. :)
Society6 artist promo is back! :) Here are some examples of stuff available on my Society6 store.
SAM SPRATT’s 2014 PORTRAIT GIVEAWAY
In short: Reblogs and Likes of this picture are each entries to have me paint a personalized portrait of you.
In slightly less short: Longtime followers are no stranger to these contests but for those new to this or me, I’m an illustrator (my work: www.samspratt.com ) who has worked with National Geographic, Janelle Monáe, Childish Gambino, FX, Game Informer, Angry Birds, Wall Street Journal, among others – creating album and magazine covers, advertisements, and posters – but a big part of me being able to do all that has been you sharing my work over the last 3 years. As my small way of paying that forward, I’d like to paint for one of you as I would for my clients, but ya know … for free. Maybe you want that regal portrait of you in a velvet smoking jacket to hang over your mantel, maybe one of your loved one, favorite character, or perhaps you just want me to paint you however I see fit (warning: this will 100% involve dinosaurs) – if you can think it, I’ll probably paint it – and I’ll work with you to make it something special.
As usual I’ll also be sending signed prints and haikus about your eyebrows to extra winners. The contest will stay open for about a week then I’ll randomly draw winners. You can enter on facebook and twitter for extra entries but be cool and don’t spam your followers.
My husband’s throwing a big party at our place.. like 50+ people coming, DJ’s, bands playing, beers aplenty, that sort of thing.. and I’m sitting here, and having a massive panic attack. I love my husband, and I want to be supportive, so I’m keeping it quiet, and internal.
Why do I have to not like parties like everyone else? Why do I just want to hide somewhere? I kinda hate myself right now.
